Northern Traverse, Lakes Traverse, Moors Traverse and Dales Traverse
300km,100km, 80km and 55km self-supported Ultra RaceS
Beginning at St Bees on the west coast, the route crosses the north of England through three National Parks finishing in Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast. Taking in iconic mountains, valleys, moors and ~6,500m of ascent, the Northern Traverse is one of the most spectacular ultra races in the world.
The Lakes Traverse starts with the Northern Traverse in St. Bees and crosses the entire Lake District, finishing in Shap. You'll have 28 hrs to complete the race, from the western coast through Ennerdale, Borrowdale, over Grasmere Common and Fairfield, through Patterdale, over Kidsty Pike and along Haweswater and into Shap. With a total of ~3500m of ascent over 100km, this is a challenging yet beautiful ultra.
Following the same route as Northern Traverse, the Moors Traverse starts from Ingleby Cross, following the spectacular northern edge of the North York Moors National Park, before weaving through eastern Yorkshire to a stunning finish at Robin Hood’s Bay. This is an achievable and beautiful 80km ultra with ~1,600m elevation and a great stepping stone for those aspiring to enter the more challenging Lakes Traverse.
The 55km Dales Traverse starts in Kirkby Stephen, passes through the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty, over the iconic Nine Standards, and into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Weaving through Swaledale to a stunning finish below Richmond Castle with a total of ~1,400m elevation.
