Ourea Events announces recipients of their 2016 One Percent For The Planet donations

The John Muir Trust, Fix the Fells and The National Trust for Scotland have all received donations from Ourea Events as part of their 2016 annual 1% For The Planet contribution.

The company worked closely with all three organisations during the planning stages of Salomon Skyline Scotland®, the inaugural Cape Wrath Ultra®Marmot Dark Mountains™ and the Great Lakeland 3Day™ to ensure that any potential environmental impact was carefully considered, and then that measures were taken to minimise, quite literally in some cases, the footprint of the event.

Scott McCombie, from the National Trust for Scotland said, “The Skyline event has brought great publicity for us here at the National Trust for Scotland in Glencoe. We’ve worked with Ourea Events for the last few years and I feel between us we’ve got an event that is sustainable and bringing in visitors and income to not just us in the NTS but the whole of Lochaber. Ourea donate to the NTS through the “1% for the planet” scheme, if you’d like to help us fund the ongoing habitat work here in Glencoe and across the NTS then why not go to https://www.nts.org.uk/Donate/ and give what you can”.

Gareth Field, Outdoor and Sports Programme Manager for the National Trust in the Lake District continued, “We really value this donation from Ourea events. Shane and his team really take their environmental responsibilities seriously, not only working with us to plan a route that reduces their environmental impact. But also through donations like this, that directly help maintain the Lake District. This donation will help continue the great work that Fix the Fells does in the Lake District to maintain the paths networks in the Fells”.

1% for the Planet is a global organization, started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies.  Members have given more than $150 million to environmental non-profits to date. Today, 1% for the Planet is a network of more than 1,200 member businesses, numerous individuals, and thousands of non-profit partners in more than 40 countries.

For the first time since the company was founded, individuals can now become members by donating 1% of their annual salary or net worth to support the environmental causes most important to them.

Director of Ourea Events, Shane Ohly, explained the Ourea Events reasons for supporting these organisations through 1%FTP, “Ourea Events has now been a member of 1% For The Planet since 2012 when the company was started. I strongly believe that part of being a responsible and forward thinking business, is to account for the impact we have on the planet. Whilst recycling, public transport and low energy lightbulbs all have a part to play, sometimes a cash donation makes a real difference. I understand our contribution to the excellent work of these organisations is just a drop in the water, but I hope our example will encourage other users of the fantastic outdoor environments to contribute to their upkeep.”
