pRICING POLICY

Updated: 26.07.2022

We have had to make the difficult decision to increase our prices. This is due to the overwhelming increase in the cost of goods and services required to deliver our events.

In the UK, inflation is calculated by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). They release inflation figures each month, demonstrating the percentage increase since the same month in the previous year. According to the ONS, inflation rose by 9.4% in the 12 months prior to June 2022, and many economists are predicting that it’ll increase to 10-11% in the next few months.

We’d like to give you some real examples of how inflation is impacting our events:

  • The RAC Foundation tracks the cost of fuel over time, and the average cost of diesel in May 2021 was £1.30 per litre – it has now risen to almost £2.00 per litre.

  • Enterprise Flexi-Rent has just increased the cost of their rentals by almost 10% and jumped from zero cost to £50 per vehicle for each delivery and collection. These increasing costs compounded across the fleet of 63 vehicles supporting the Cape Wrath Ultra® (as an example) make for an eye-watering increase in our event delivery costs.

  • Participants and Event Team consume a vast amount of food at our events. As we confirm our wholesale food order for the Montane Dragon’s Back Race® this September, we are able to compare the unit price of individual food items to the Cape Wrath Ultra® held earlier in the year. There are 180 individual items on this order, and 179 have increased in cost, with the increase varying between £0.10 and £20.00 per item. The resulting uplift in our wholesale food bill measured in the £1,000s.

tiered pricing for certain events

We want to ensure that our loyal community of participants are rewarded with the best possible prices from us if they enter early, so we are introducing tiered pricing, with entry prices regularly increasing the later someone waits to enter an event. We hope that this will strike the balance between offering value for money but also allowing us to keep pace with inflation.

This is relevant for events where participants enter throughout the year, such as the SILVA Lakes Traverse or the Salomon Glen Coe Skyline®. Our three expedition races (the SILVA Northern Traverse™, Montane Dragon’s Back Race® and Cape Wrath Ultra®) require a long period of preparation and training, therefore the majority of participants enter a year in advance. For these events, the entry fee is fixed.

Here is an example of tiered pricing for the SILVA Lakes Traverse and Salomon Glen Coe Skyline®:

SILVA Lakes Traverse

  • £149 (available for 4 months since entries opened)

  • From 1st August 2022 - £159 (available for middle 5 months)

  • From 1st January 2023 - £169 (available for last ~3 months)

Depending on how the macroeconomic environment evolves, we may further amend our prices.

A key message for our community of participants is that entering early will guarantee the best price for certain events.

We are very aware of the cost of living crisis facing many people, and conscious that, while our events provide incredible value for money, the expedition races in particular present a significant investment.

How do our events offer excellent value for money?

We create world-class events that inspire participants to take on challenging and life-affirming adventures with genuine challenge at their core – mainly in remote locations and in potentially arduous conditions.

We aim to do all of this in a fair and sustainable way – looking after our valued community of event team and demonstrating good businesses practises.

A professional approach to our operations

To achieve all this, slick systems, processes, and many years of specialist experience in event management are required.

We don’t cut corners; we don’t skimp on the detail, and we don’t take risks on behalf of our participants. We are thorough in how we approach every task to ensure that you are in safe hands – and to ensure that local communities feel involved and comfortable with the event planning.

We employ our own mountain safety and medical teams who are highly trained professionals. Our operations team build event sites that are safe, reliable and customer friendly. Our course management team will do all the planning for you, taking you on some brilliant running adventures that also respect the local environment.

Added value to the customer experience

We add value to the customer experience at every stage with continued support from the office team, clear, accurate and supportive communication about the nature of the challenge, a fantastic community of engaged volunteers and a lifelong community of participants to get involved with.

Our events should be seen as complete experiences where we look after all the logistics on behalf of the runner so that they can sit back, relax, and focus on enjoying their adventure or pushing themselves to their limit.

We hope to see you at an event in the future ©No Limits Photography

Volunteer to earn event credit

Don’t forget that volunteers at our events receive a race credit equal to the value of the entry fee, and this provides a route for anyone to take part in our events for little or no cost.
